The word ‘furphy’ is Australian slang for a tall tale, a story told as true but which is not.
Like most slang, precise origins can be hard to define, and I’d never encountered this story about Furphy brand water tanks before today.
Surely it’s not a furphy. That would be ironic, wouldn’t it?
