In the next couple of months MGPC will visited by a consultant to help us discern our opportunities for mission and ministry in Mount Gambier, with a special view to the transition of our second pastoral position early in 2016.
Part of that examination is discerning our own congregational culture, to better know how we can live out and share the Gospel, and not simply serve a structure or an institution.

This post from Trevin Wax provides a little background to this ongoing process of self-discernment.

To apply these insights to churches, we would focus on vital signs: spiritual health, average worship attendance compared to church membership roles, growth in evangelism and disciple-making, the church’s strengths and weaknesses. It may be uncomfortable to dig into some of these numbers, but it’s essential. There’s no use in denying or downplaying the current situation, whether good or bad.
