What a thrill to conclude our Christmas service at MGPC today singing Joy To The World.
I love preaching on Christmas Day.
It’s a time to take the 200 proof grace off the shelf and give everyone a big undiluted swig.
And then another one. And another.
That’s not to say it’s watered down grace any other time, but the plainer and purer the better to cut through the sentimentality of the Christmas season.
I tell my kids some year I’ll take Christmas off.
They laugh at me.
The lyrics:
1
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her king;
let every heart prepare him room,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven, and heaven and nature sing.
2
Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!
Let all their songs employ,
while fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
repeat the sounding joy,
repeat the sounding joy,
repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
3
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
nor thorns infest the ground;
he comes to make his blessings flow
far as the curse is found,
far as the curse is found,
far as, far as the curse is found.
4
He rules the world with truth and grace,
and makes the nations prove
the glories of his righteousness
and wonders of his love,
and wonders of his love,
and wonders, wonders of his love.
