Sang a lovely selection of hymns at Ann Street Presbyterian this morning, and Ye Servants Of God was among them.
The visiting US family didn’t seem to be familiar with it (or a couple of the others) but it brought back many memories.
I have to confess to probably knowing it better to the tune HANOVER, rather than the tune LAUDATE DOMINUM which was used today, but I’d learned LAUDATE DOMINUM as it seems to be the preferred accompaniment whenever the song features on Songs Of Praise.

The lyrics:
1
Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim,
and publish abroad his wonderful name;
the name all-victorious of Jesus extol;
his kingdom is glorious and rules over all.
2
God rules in the height, almighty to save;
though hid from our sight, his presence we have;
the great congregation his triumph shall sing,
ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.
3
“Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!”
let all cry aloud, and honor the Son;
the praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
fall down on their faces and worship the Lamb.
4
Then let us adore and give him his right:
all glory and power, all wisdom and might,
all honor and blessing with angels above
and thanks never ceasing for infinite love.

This is the same tune as we used this morning.

  1. Caroline Robertson says:

    I always thought Presbyterians sang it to Horton. I sang it to Laudate Dominum in the Congregational church in NSW, then learnt Horton when I joined the Presies in Victoria.

    I should take the opportunity to say how much I look forward to reading your Sunday Songs (usually on Monday).
    Thanks

      Thanks Caroline.
      I’m away from my music books at the moment so I’ll check ‘Horton’ out later.
      Finding a new song to post every week is not a chore (though finding a recorded version to post can sometimes be a challenge).
