As mentioned yesterday we spent the day with Jozua’s family in Adelaide.
The basic events of the day were that Jozua was judged advanced enough to take the breathing tube from his throat, but, as a result of his reactions to that procedure he was unable to breathe on his own and the tube had to be replaced and the various painkillers and sedations that he was weaned off had to be reinstated.
It will be 48 hours before further action will be considered.
After a week of incremental but steady progress this was a huge disappointment for his parents and siblings.
We’re thankful he was judged well enough to attempt this step, and sorrowful about the setback.
But today is a new day.
We’ll see them again before setting off home again this afternoon.
Emotions are raw, and tears are never far away.
God is an ever-present refuge and strength.
After dinner last night Jeroen read of Jesus’ birth in Luke 2 and we sang Blessed Be Your Name acapella.

Jeroen and Diana are steeling themselves for a long haul.
This will not be a season of days or weeks, but longer, we think.
And friends, they are praying that no one will be discouraged by the situation Jozua and they are in.
In the midst of everything they’re praying that your faith will not fail.

So, continue to pray and give thanks that they know the presence and power of God, whose objective covenant promises anchor them in life and in death.
