New South Wales very deserving winners.
When the game was there to be won they dominated.
Luke Lewis should be the first forward picked. Greg Bird made some very telling plays. Debutant five-eighth James Maloney looks to have the goods.
Queensland’s best efforts came too late, and their forward pack seems to lack balance.
Their vaunted ‘spine’ of Smith, Thurston, Cronk and Slater seemed very disjointed.
It’s hard to imagine too many changes in the Queensland squad for game two, but the forwards definitely need something more and some sort of tinkering may take place.
