This week we consider two perspectives on Jesus: a woman who knew his value could not be expressed by a price; and a man who set a price for Jesus but demonstrated that he was ignorant of his true value.
The words of Psalm 27, I Ask The LORD And Seek, along with Come, Christians, Join To Sing will prepare us for worship which commences with All Creatures Of Our God And King.
Our prayer of approach and confession will recall the all surpassing wonder of God’s being and love for us and express sorrow for those times when the reality of Him has not been enough for us. This theme will be continued in our song of assurance If Christ Be God And Died For Me.
In the weeks leading up to Easter the Christological precision of the Nicene Creed is giving expression to our shared faith, after which we’ll sing Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow.
Continuing to hear from Jeremiah, this week from 15:1-21, God promises protection to the prophet. The protection and care of the Lord Jesus is the theme of the song Saviour, Like A Shepherd Lead Us.
Matthew 26:1-16 begins the narrative of Jesus arrest, death and resurrection. It seems the account of the woman who anointed Jesus with precious perfume is included in the Gospel because it transitions us to these events and because it contrasts with the actions of Judas, who demonstrates a precise lack of that which the woman actually demonstrates. Again, this is telling because Judas had actually spent his time alongside Jesus, the woman much less so. Faith is the key.
After our prayers of thanksgiving and for the needs of others we’ll give our tithes and offerings and conclude by singing Behold Our God, a song which points forward to the reign and rule of the risen Lord Jesus.
