Yesterday I received a message containing the news that mgpc member Ned Morrison had died.
We’ve all had a lot of sadness about Ned’s recent situation with a weakened body and a mind which was increasingly failing him.
His death is a great release, and though we are sad, Ned’s desire to burn out rather than rust out has belatedly been met.
Ned loved Jesus, as those who listened to him for any length of time invariably heard.
His desire was to freely use his mechanical skills to help others, a reflection of the care and generosity God had shown him.
Single minded with a fair bit of stubbornness, all Ned really wanted was for all the glory to go God.

Tonight here at Highfields, after their rehearsal, the choir sang two pieces for Jeroen and me. One was Soon And Very Soon, the other contained a ringing refrain of the eternal praise words ‘Glory Hallelujah’.
I shared with the choir that for one of our members Soon And Very Soon had this very day had become ‘Right Now’ as Ned has opened his eyes in the presence of his Lord.
The weakened lungs and frail mind now past, and his voice added to the choir of eternity.
I also reminded the choir that though they may sing in front of a judge at an upcoming competition in which they shall compete, they are really performing for God alone, and if they sing for His glory alone the blessing they will know will outweigh any prize they may win.
To me, that sums up Ned’s life, he was living to serve and glorify his Saviour and we were the blessed beneficiaries of his ministry and witness.
To God alone be thanks and praise.
