Tomorrow at mgpc 1 Timothy 4:6-16 will demonstrate the way in which the leadership of a local church maintains the direction of its ministry and mission.
God builds the ship, Christ sets the course, the Holy Spirit fills its sails and pastoral leadership is the rudder.
We’ll prepare to worship singing praise from Psalm 84 (Advancing still from strength to strength); Ancient of Days; and Come now, Almighty King. These songs praise the Triune God for His saving faithfulness and power, while also expressing thanks for the life as part of God’s kingdom which is ours.
As we respond to God’s call to worship, praying in adoration to God, and confessing our sins and trust in the atoning work of Jesus, our song of testimony will be O my soul, arise and bless Your maker.
Our lectio continua reading from Isaiah 63 moves toward the culmination of the book’s themes as God gives testimony of His justice and mercy.
We’ll respond to that global testimony to the almighty nature of our God by singing Lord of all creation (God of wonders).
The reading of 1 Timothy 4:4-16 and will precede a sermon on Paul’s instruction to Timothy about the pastoral work for which he was set apart. The balance of belief and character must be maintained so that local churches will remain orthodox in belief and godly in their character, effective in both ministry and mission.
After pastoral prayer by Roger Bannister, our worship will conclude with the song When I survey the wondrous cross, perhaps the finest hymnal expression of testimony and consecration.
