Preaching through the Psalms we arrived at Psalm 24, so we had to sing Ye Gates Lift Up Your Heads On High which is based on Psalm 24:7-10.
This section of Scripture celebrates the coming of Messiah.
It’s a sadness that Psalms have disappeared from a lot of Presbyterian churches. I expect they’ll come back sometime soon. A denomination that affirms word ministry so strongly in its worship won’t endure for very long in leaving the word our of the content of their songs.
Maybe when someone adds a bridge and copyrights a new arrangement.
This is like the national anthem of Presbyterianism.
Sing it nice and loud.
The lyrics.
1.
Ye gates, lift up your heads on high;
Ye doors that last for aye,
Be lifted up, that so the King of glory enter may.
But who of glory is the King?
The mighty Lord is this;
E’en that same Lord that great in might? and strong in battle is,
E’en that same Lord that great in might? and strong in battle is.
2.
Ye gates, lift up your heads on high;
Ye doors that last for aye,
Be lifted up, that so the King of glory enter may.
But who is He that is the King?
(The King) of glory? Who is this?
The Lord of hosts, and none but He? the King of Glory is
The Lord of hosts, and none but He? the King of Glory is.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Amen! Amen! Amen!
