The Splendour Of The King / How Great Is Our God seems to have been written by committee, so it should be popular with Presbyterians.
Jesse Reeves and Ed Cash apparently convinced Chris Tomlin not to set it so high that only dogs can hear it (and human males can’t sing it without injury). Or maybe it’s my imagination.
I find it okay to sing, and the lyrics are okay, if a little bit esoteric. ‘He wraps Himself in light, and darkness tries to hide,’ yeah, it’s pretty Mabo, it’s the vibe… The rest is much more solid.
I think I’ve seen this used as a medley with the chorus from ‘How Great Thou Art’ with reasonable effect.
The lyrics.
1.
The splendour of the King
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice, and trembles at His voice
Chorus.
How great is our God! Sing with me
How great is our God! And all will see
How great, how great is our God!
2.
And age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the End, Beginning and the End
The Godhead, three in one
Father, Spirit, Son
The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb
Chorus.
Bridge.
Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God!
(Repeat whatever you feel is needed from this point on. Probably the chorus once or twice.)
