If you know today as Palm Sunday you’d probably know this a good Sunday to sing Psalm 24.
I wasn’t at mgpc today so they sang a very singable version of the Psalm from the Book Of Psalms For Worship which is set to the tune of the hymn To God Be The Glory. It’s a good setting and the tune suits the words really well.
Normally I’d attempt to get them to sing the setting of the Psalm 24 which has the words Ye Gates Lift Up Your Heads On High as its beginning and is set to the tune St Georges Extended (I think, I’m writing this from memory because I’m too lazy to look it up). They’re getting pretty good at it. Surprising that a group who considered themselves staunch, old school Presbyterians didn’t really know this one.
At Naracoorte (the church I was visiting) we sang Christopher Idle’s version which is set to a tune based on the Trumpet Voluntary. We sang this tonight at mgpc. (And I know it was a little too quick)

Anyway, while I’ll always have a soft spot for Ye Gates, I love, love, love Nathan Clark Georges’ rendition of this Psalm.
Here’s the track from his live album.

And here’s him singing it at a local church, the acoustics are not as good as the album, obviously.

Of course, as a good Aussie, here’s the Sons Of Korah version.

While I’ve said that Nicky Chiswell’s Resurrection is my favourite EMU album, her version of Psalm 24 isn’t a high point and doesn’t reach the standards of these two. I’d try to link to it, but the EMU music website seems to have temporarily disappeared from the internet, or at least my web browser.
