Today’s pianist played this during the offering today and we sang it tonight at mgpc.
Your Love, Shining Like The Sun (also known as Pour Over Me) probably is indicative of Stuart Townend’s transition from writing chorus style to hymn style songs.
The mature themes of Townend’s song writing are in evidence.
While speaking expressively of Christian experience, the focus is always on the full scope of God’s saving work.
Now, your appreciation for this song may hinge on whether you can cope with the ‘oooh’ which preceeds the last line of the verses.
Can’t win them all. If you go with it, don’t skimp, there’s nothing worse that a half-hearted ‘oooh’.
(Say, what if ‘Selah’ is the Hebrew equivalent of ‘oooh’? Probably not.)
I like singing this song from time to time.
The lyrics:
1.
Your love, shining like the sun,
Pouring like the rain,
Raging like the storm,
Refreshing me again.
I receive Your love.
2.
Your grace frees me from the past,
It purges every sin,
It purifies my heart
And heals me from within.
I receive Your grace.
Chorus.
Pour over me,
Pour over me,
Let Your rain flood this thirsty soul.
Pour over me Your waves of love,
Pour over me.
3.
I come and lay my burden down
Gladly at Your feet,
I’m opening up my heart;
Come make this joy complete.
I receive Your peace.
Chorus.

Reminds me of a time in the 80’s when I heard “Majesty” sung as “whoa-whoa Majesty”

      Heh.
‘The Great Southland’ had this whoa-o-o-o-o thing going on as well.
It’s hard to get a convincing whoa-o-o-o-o out of a bunch of Aussies.
