Great quote from Ray Ortlund’s blog.
Prayer has sort of disappeared from some church services, in some cases it’s a someone shouting at God with people applauding or everyone speaking at once.
This is a great challenge.
“Intercessory prayers have become ceremonial vestiges in our churches – rituals which baptize meetings as they begin and bury them when they end. Such prayers ignore the whole panorama of God’s work in the world and focus on stifling particularities. How many pastoral prayers have you heard which embraced the scope of God’s work throughout the planet, probed the concerns of his kingdom in the whole nation, and dealt adequately with local concerns beyond the need of your own congregation?”
