Fernando Ortega has released a new album, Come Down O Love Divine.
It is an assured production.
Accompanied by sparing acoustic instrumental (and sometimes choral) support, Ortega himself refrains from needless vocal embellishment showing mature confidence in the melodies and lyrics, as well as his own voice and playing abilities.
It’s a very intimate, affecting and assured performance.
There is at once a sense of familiarity and freshness in these songs. Borrowing older hymns of the church and adding his own lyrics and melodies the album is not simply the reaffirmation of historic faith, but Ortega’s response to these timeless themes.
The album represents a personal and accessible expression of faith.
