Another song written by Stuart Townend is Beautiful Saviour, which starts with the words ‘All My Days.’
It is a piece from 1998 that demonstrates Townend’s transition from a composer of praise and worship choruses to more hymn-like songs.
Although it bears the verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, chorus structure of a lot of contemporary songs, the verses show progression. Praise for mercy, praise for the present and future work of the cross, a wonderful chorus that ascribes scriptural imagery in its praise of Jesus, another chorus that looks forward to the eternal chorus of praise (even thought it uses a ‘quoted’ word of ‘worthy’ that I usually want to shout rather than just sing and then a repeated chorus to finish.
The song is joyous, but not too quick and makes statements that any Christian can identify with.
By coincidence it’s featuring on the episode of ‘Songs Of Praise’ that I TiVo’ed today as well as mgpc having sung it at our service this morning.
The lyrics:
1.
All my days I will sing this song of gladness,
Give my praise to the Fountain of delights;
For in my helplessness You heard my cry,
And waves of mercy poured down on my life.
2.
I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer,
I will sing of the blood that never fails;
Of sins forgiven, of conscience cleansed,
Of death defeated and life without end.
Chorus:
Beautiful Saviour, Wonderful Counsellor,
Clothed in majesty, Lord of history,
You’re the Way, the Truth, the Life.
Star of the Morning, glorious in holiness,
You’re the Risen One, heaven’s Champion,
And You reign, You reign over all!
3.
I long to be where the praise is never-ending,
Yearn to dwell where the glory never fades;
Where countless worshippers will share one song,
And cries of ‘worthy’ will honour the Lamb!
Chorus
times two.
