Wayne is a pastor at Dubbo Presbyterian.
In a post titled ‘Dictating A Talk’ an embedded YouTube demonstrates how Wayne composes his Bible talks vocally, and not by typing.
This is attractive on a few levels.
The first is that most people speak faster than they type, and the typing process can be tedious.
The second is that, since Bible talks are delivered vocally it is helpful to have a manuscript that already reflects the vocal expression of the speaker. A prose manuscript, by all but the very best speech writers, will usually sound like something that was written being read. At least this would sound like something that was originally spoken being read.
The third is that concepts which you can look at written on paper don’t always communicate well when you have to read them out. Saying it out loud beforehand gives you the opportunity to think ‘huh, they’re not going to follow me all the way through that, are they?’ and make adjustments.
An interesting look into the technology.
