Listening to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announcing a leadership spill tomorrow which he will be contesting. How can a first term Prime Minister who won a sweeping victory; has faced a decimated and dispirited opposition (led by its third leader in three years); and whose government has not had any question of scandal or illegal behaviour be in so much trouble?
This is an indicator that Rudd has no real power base in the party and was elected leader only in the hope he could win. Though having delivered victory the party feel little loyalty to him.
A line from some factional leader just used by Chris Ulhmann on Lateline was “This neo-fascist didn’t build a powerbase within the party and now he’s lost his only powerbase, Newspoll.”
Isn’t there something in Scripture about a house divided?
Well said Gary.
Nearly as bad a church politics.
