For those who like this sort of stuff an extensive set of notes on the Tuesday sittings of the Free Church Of Scotland’s 2010 General Assembly can be found here.
Notes on the Wednesday sitting are currently being added.
Here is a link to a pdf manuscript of The Exciting Church, the keynote address (sermon) by David Meredith, who is the Assembly’s Moderator (Chairman).

Thought provoking youth report at 6.30pm on the Tuesday! Couple of interesting points:
“We expect children to come to faith but we dont hear of children coming to faith from no background”
    and
“Youth Worker training. This is ongoing. Youth workers should be recognised by the church.”
Would be interested to know what they mean by ‘recognised’?

At a rough guess I’d say that the situation is the same as the one here.
Elders and pastors (ruling and teaching elders) have recognition in that their function, status and accountability is stated in the rules.
Assistant pastors, associate pastors, elders set apart and home missioners all are recognised specifically to some extent or another, as are deacons and deaconesses.
Youth Workers, as such have no specific formal status. As has happened to you, the assistant to the minister thing is your status, while your function has stuff to do with young people.

I think that is a good summary. Seems that they have a lot of work over there and it is good that they have identified that. It can be difficult to know exactly what to do; especially what to change in order to move forward!
