At Calvinism & The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance, David Meredith offers a reflection on what is a most bittersweet experience for a bibliophile: a bookstore closing-down sale.
The attraction of cheap books weighs heavily against the thought of one less bookshop.
(Though I must admit that online purchasing accounts for the bulk of my aquisitions these days.)
During ‘The ghoul who is ambivalent about Battenberg cake‘ he also offers an aside about Hillsong which is non-technical in a theological sense, but which was very amusing to me, anyway.
“Hillsongs CDs really are the evangelical equivalent of Battenberg cakes. Allow me a brief excursus on Battenbergs – far too sweet, I never eat the marzipan, quite enjoy the sponge but only ever take one slice. Hillsongs, I can cope with one song at a time but spare me the DVD, Abba baptized.”
For the uninitiated, Meredith includes an image of a Battenburg Cake in his post.
