The five hundreth anniversary of the birth of John Calvin falls on July 10 this year.
It is an occasion which is being marked in many ways.
I followed a link from someone’s website (and can’t find it again, sorry) that took me to an article on the website of the Melbourne and Geelong Anglicans. (Of all places.)
The article is self explanatory, a Dutch newspaper sponsors the test which involves answering agree or disagree to a series of statements. With each answer some background information around the question topic appears. After the completion of 25 questions a percentage score with a bit of analysis on what sort of Calvinist you are can be brought up.
This link takes you directly to the test.
While contemporary Calvinists might think that our theological counterpoint is Arminianism, the test uses Roman Catholocism as its point of contrast. This actually makes sense.
I have to confess that despite being a five point Calvinist, I only scored 75% on the test. I could have scored higher, but had to answer the questions honestly. I never know what to do when asked a question such as ‘Do you always keep your promises?’ I try, but sometimes I can’t. I also am fond of nice food.
I thought that maybe they’d confused Manichaeaism or Randian Objectivism for Calvinism with the emphasis they placed on black and white positions with no shades of compromise, but I’m no philosopher. (And Presbyterian and Reformed church history does bear out their position.)
In any case my lowest score was for ‘sobriety’. Apparently I’m a little too frivolous to be a thorough going Calvinist.
I’ll try and be more sober in future.

(The link to the test was not working, but now it is.)
