Thom Rainer has two posts which list the 25 most used public domain (largely) hymns and the 25 most used copyrighted (recently composed) songs.
Of the hymns, we use most of these with the most notable exception of America The Beautiful (sorry Matt). I also haven’t used Victory In Jesus and Because He Lives has never struck me as a hymn for congregational singing, really.
- How Great Thou Art
- Great Is Thy Faithfulness
- Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine
- All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name
- Holy, Holy, Holy
- Jesus Paid It All
- Christ the Lord Is Risen Today
- Crown Him with Many Crowns
- It Is Well with My Soul
- To God Be the Glory
- The Solid Rock
- Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
- I Stand Amazed in the Presence
- Victory in Jesus
- Nothing but the Blood
- Amazing Grace! How Sweet the Sound
- Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
- At the Cross
- Revive Us Again
- Be Thou My Vision
- Because He Lives
- Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
- A Mighty Fortress is Our God
- For A Thousand Tongues To Sing
- America, the Beautiful
Of the modern songs, we’ve used twelve or thirteen of these either in the morning or at night.
I’d know about another eight or nine of them. Mostly I don’t use them because they’re not very singable for congregations.
Revelation Song, for instance, is quite good, but nobody who hasn’t heard it three or four times is ever going to pick it up.
- How Great Is Our God
- Mighty to Save
- Our God
- Blessed Be Your Name
- Here I am To Worship
- Revelation Song
- Everlasting God
- Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
- Jesus Messiah
- In Christ Alone
- Your Grace Is Enough
- Forever
- Open the Eyes of My Heart
- Forever Reign
- How He Loves
- You Are My King (Amazing Love)
- Holy Is the Lord
- From the Inside Out
- Hosanna (Praise Is Rising)
- Shout to the Lord
- Come Now Is the Time to Worship
- The Stand
- Hosanna
- Lord I Lift Your Name on High
- Glory to God Forever
