Tonight I attended a reception for Morialta Trust which was conducted at Government House, Adelaide.
With apologies on behalf of Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce, South Australia Governor, the reception was hosted with aplomb by Mrs Liz Scarce.
The Morialta Trust is the legacy of the Federated Protestant Children’s Homes, founded nearly one hundred years ago, which changed its name in 1929 to Morialta Protestant Children’s Homes Incorporated, and then, in 1976 to Morialta Trust.
With changing times and needs the homes were sold and the proceeds used to establish a charitable trust which has been supplemented by investment income and donations. Each year Morialta provides substantial grants to projects which seek to support marginalised children.
Six major recipients this year received certificates during tonight’s function, with over $200,000 being distributed to groups as varied as refugees, the disabled and those suffering diabetes. Apparently other minor grants, under $10,000 have also been made.
The Presbyterian Church of South Australia continues to be involved, as the Trust invites our denomination to provide suitably qualified persons to serve on both their financial management and grant distributing arms.
A special reason to attend tonight’s reception was the special recognition given to Presbyterian representatives Brian Redpath and Bob Arstall, both of who died during the last year, and both of who served Morialta, and our denomination, with distinction.
Below are a few shadowy pictures taken with my iPhone during the evening.
