In composing my last post I was confused about whether my spelling of focussed was correct.
Even now my resident spell checker doesn’t like it, giving it the wavy red line of disapproval.
Turns out in Australia we can use either, following the UK double s or the US singular.
One grammar blog puts it like this:
According to The Style Guide, which is the official guide to all the spellings in Australia, you should use focussed. But in the majority of publications, such as the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, the spelling focused is used instead.
I can’t post a larger excerpt because they use bad language.
Their grammar is fine, though.
