And then something about making a statement soon.
Okay, I’ll probably update this when she makes a public speech.
Here you go; not direct quotes, remember:

Work hardest, not complain the loudest.
Recognised workers,
Leadership is about the authority that grows.
I asked my colleagues to make a leadership change because the government was losing its way and its reforms were at risk. Education, health work place at risk.

We should not be afraid of the future.
A bright democracy for the world to admire and a sanctuary for our people.
Questions:
Why? A good government was losing its way, responsible to step up and make sure it stays on track and Labor is strongest for the next election.
Rudd’s future role? believes Kevin Rudd has a role, discussions will ensue.
Asylum Seekers? understands boats arriving give anxiety, we are a sanctuary, we must manage our borders. Will give strong leadership on this issue.
Mining tax issues? The door is open; calls on mining industry to open its mind. Takes fair share for decisions of the past, now ordering this new direction on mining tax. Not going to canvass detail.
Differences in not losing way? Not delivered stability and good managment Australians expect; work in team together; draw on best efforts of colleagues.
Explain previous categorical denials? Did everything she could do as deputy to get the government back on track; could not perform control as deputy; came to conviction in recent days.

Beholden to outside influence? Defied anyone to demonstrate that she had made decisions to
First woman P.M.? Didn’t set out to crash glass ceilings, set out to keep feet on floor and serve people.
Difficulties of Labor’s prospects for the next election? Determined to oppose cut backs to education, health and rights at work. Quality government services matter.
Carbon price delay and present policy? Affirmed her role in the delay. Need to develop community concensus about the need for a carbon price, why it’s needed and how it would work. Pursue argument for change.
Gillard believes that she can put the argument decency and fairness and that her success is in the hands of the Australian people.
When will Parliament sit? No committment to election date. (I don’t think she’s going to live in the Lodge until she’s elected PM, Gillard later confirms this fact.)
How much convincing did she requre to take the job? She wouldn’t be here if she didn’t want it.
Approach to opposing Tony Abbott: Govern well, demonstrate aptitude; say to Australian public the things that Tony Abbott is not telling the truth about.
Will never speak about her final conversation with Rudd.
Will have conversation with Rudd about his future soon.
Swann: unexpected privelege to be elected deputy.
A day to knuckle down and get back to work, continuity required.
A good story to tell, many still do it tough, families still under pressure, importance of health and education.
Emphasis on strong, responsible economic management.
Tough day for Rudd, his family and his staff.
Tribute for work in public service over a long period.
