David Wayne is the JollyBlogger. He has been undergoing treatment for cancer of late, so his posts are infrequent, but when he does post he writes something worth reading.
Wayne received a review copy of ‘Jesus Manifesto’ by Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola.
His comments are pertinent, and worth considering particularly when there are movements within the church that seem to promote their views of what the Christian life should be that are not based on Scripture, but on claims that everything we’ve been doing as the church for nigh on twenty centuries has been based either on a mistaken emphasis on Greek thought as opposed to Hebrew thought or the syncretistic incorporation of alien religious practice.
When someone’s pitch starts with ‘everything you’ve known so far is a lie’ you’re usually watching a science fiction movie. When someone’s advocacy of Christian obedience begins with the idea that the body of Christ has been getting it wrong for twenty centuries, then they’re overstating what may be a very reasonable case.
