Here is a link to the Home Page for the 2010 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Canada.
Some of these Presbyterian Churches we have more or less theological affinity with.
I am interested in ways that meetings such as this can have their business and proceedings publicised through online services.
All the reports of this meeting and the recent Assemblies of the Free Church and Church of Scotland are available online.
The Church of Scotland made use of video of its proceedings.
The Presbyterian Church (USA) is apparently having its first ‘paperless’ assembly this year.
The Presbyterian Church of Canada has Cover It Live live blogging capacity on its webpage.
I think that some of these features could be of use for Assembly meetings here in Australia.
Particularly for the meetings of the federal assembly, which take place every three years.
I would think that all the public reports should be placed online, that the minutes should be placed online when confirmed, that daily summaries of activity should be posted and that, if possible, at least the opening service should be put live online.
There seems to be a line of thinking that if we have a meeting or a commemorative rally in Sydney that it actually makes an iota of difference to Presbyterian churches throughout the nation.
The idea that we communicate with our churches throughout the nation seems to be a nuisance.
Some folk just have to get out of Sydney more often.
