In relation to our partnership in Timor Leste (East Timor) I’ve mentioned the presence of workers from the Presbyterian Church of Brazil.
For those who may not have read those accounts, the church is a confessional body, basically equivalent to the Presbyterian Church of Australia. I can’t express the mutual delight felt when one of the workers asked me directly if our denomination was liberal (I said ‘No’, of course) and we were able to determine that we affirmed the same understanding of the Scriptures.
Michael Horton, a US writer and academic from a reformed/presbyterian background is currently visiting Brazil, more particularly the Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (Mackenzie Presbyterian University). This Presbyterian University has a student body of 45,000. (My town of Mount Gambier has a population of 25,000.)
This post outlines some of Horton’s early impressions: ‘An Update From Michael Horton In Brazil’.
This post precedes the other and is of an introductory nature: ‘Horton In Brazil’.
