So, I spent a fair part of today burdening myself with all sorts of negative thoughts about my personal and pastoral circumstances.
Then I remembered that God works all things for my good.
Even if these experiences are unpleasant and hurtful God will use them to increase my dependence upon Him.
That thought cheered me up. I like to grow in my dependence upon God.
There’s no wastage in God’s economy.

I also was listening to Andrew Peterson’s ‘Resurrection Letters, Volume 2’.
Andrew sort of sounds like Paul Simon and sings songs that tell stories, much like Simon and Paul Kelly.
The song ‘All You’ll Every Need’ is a good example of the complexity of spiritual truth that Peterson is capable of elegantly weaving together using familiar biblical imagery.
Reflecting on the blood of Jesus, Peterson sings: “And I need it, I need it. The closer that I grow, the more I come to know how much I need it.”

The closer that I grow to God the more I become aware of just how much I need His mercy and grace.

Here’s the song, performed by Peterson. Go and buy the CD, if you haven’t already.
