Back to the Keith and Kristyn Getty catalogue today.
You’ll be reading a bit about them here over time because their tunes are singable and their words explore a more biblically complete picture of the Christian’s life than a lot of other contemporary composers.
Higher Throne is a good example of this breadth. If a Christian’s theology maintains that heaven is experienced on earth (health and prosperity, for example) their songs will reflect that. You’ll sing about where your focus and experience of God is. Some theologies seem to leave no room for the fact that every tear will not be wiped away now, nor every hunger fulfilled. The biblical Christian position is that there is much that will only be fully realised in the world to come. The perfect expression of God’s justice, the full experience of His presence, the completeness of His blessings are for the future.

1.
There is a higher throne
Than all this world has known,
Where faithful ones from ev’ry tongue
Will one day come.
Before the Son we’ll stand,
Made faultless through the Lamb;
Believing hearts find promised grace—
Salvation comes.

REFRAIN
Hear heaven’s voices sing;
Their thund’rous anthem rings
Through em’rald courts and sapphire skies.
Their praises rise.
All glory, wisdom, pow’r,
Strength, thanks, and honor are
To God our King, who reigns on high
Forevermore.

2.
And there we’ll find our home,
Our life before the throne;
We’ll honor Him in perfect song
Where we belong.
He’ll wipe each tear-stained eye
As thirst and hunger die.
The Lamb becomes our Shepherd King;
We’ll reign with Him.

This week’s youtube video is actually a teaching clip in which the Gettys and Stuart Townend provide a tutorial of the song, including a lovely pretty much acoustic rendition. If you’re interested in learning the song watch it all, if you just want to hear the song you can stop after four minutes or so.
