So another Koorong Cataloue has turned up in the mail.
What’s of interest?
Stuff I don’t have, but would like (The Wishlist):
The Tozer Classics ten volume set. (Page 5, $44.95) These are each fairly brief paperbacks. I haven’t read a lot of A. W. Tozer and these are a great value introduction.
A Lifetime of Wisdom by Joni Eareckson Tada. (Page 11, $17.95. Joni’s experience of God’s sustaining grace during an adult life spent in a wheel chair has produced a rich faithful witness.
Remembering ’59: a dvd documentary on Billy Graham’s 1959 Crusade in Australia. (Page 21, $24.95) If anyone remembers John Woodbridge’s 15 Great Truths About Revivals that I posted after the SMBC Preaching Conference, you’ll find most of them in this remarkable record of Graham’s time in Australia. God can do it again.
The Reason for God by Timothy Keller. (Page 27, $19.95) Tim Keller’s response to the new atheism. Anything by Keller is worth reading.
Books I already own and recommend:
The Grand Weaver by Ravi Zacharias. (Page 2, $10.00) ‘God works all things for good’ Zacharias reflects on how this is true.
The Prodigal God by Tim Keller. (Page 10, $19.95) Keller takes the parable from Luke 15:11-32 and explores the nature of God’s love and applies lessons for our own love as well.
Desiring God by John Piper. (Page 30, $21.95) Glorify God by enjoying Him forever. If you haven’t read this you’ve missed out.
Disciplines of a Godly Man/Godly Woman/Godly Family by Kent and Barbara Hughes. (Page 30, $21.95/$19.95) Gracious biblical teaching by mature and wise Christians.
Loopy sounding stuff.
The fiction novel ‘Wives of King David #1: Michal’. (Page 9) Apparently Michal went through a personal transformation. Who’da thought? I wonder how long the series will go? Abigail? Bathsheba? It’s gonna get crowded by the end.
Of course that hardy perennial ‘The Shack’ (Page 32) always qualifies for this section. If you really want to know “Where is God in a world of unspeakable pain?” go to your Bible and read Job. You probably already own it, and it has the overwhelming advantage of being true.
Happy Birthday Gary!
Maybe something on the wishlist from Jim and Alison
