I didn’t discover Josh Ritter till a little bit later than ten years ago, but his album So Runs The World Away is one of my absolute favourites.
The original thirteen tracks have been joined by another six that are added to the album as it currently sits on the Australian iTunes Store.
There are also another six tracks which are described as ‘B’ sides, demos and remixes which are gathered on an EP called To The Yet Unknowing World.
I’ve always wondered why those tracks weren’t included as well, particularly the first three on the EP. Oh well.

Here’s a live recorded YouTube from yesterday where Josh plays the whole album and few more songs.
The album was somewhat acoustic and grounded in story, so it loses nothing from this style of performance.
This is not Christian music, however the themes of love, relationship, yearning, (a murder or three), and consequences all provoke thoughts and responses that can deepen your appreciation of grace.
If you’ve never heard it before you’re in for a treat, especially if it’s your first time hearing The Curse.
With Jason Isbell’s If We Were Vampires, and Ritter’s The Curse, someone just needs to write a love song based on werewolves.
